Hockey Tour to Holland

On Monday 2nd July, 32 children and 4 staff set out from East Midlands to travel to Holland, The Hague, to embark on a 5 day hockey tour. What a fantastic time we had.

On arrival we settled into the hotel and then set of for our evening training session, this was followed by another training session on our first full day. It took place in blistering heat and thankfully under the jets from time to time. Later in the day we travelled to our 1st fixtures at HC Ypenburg, what great hosts they were. The matches were competitive and they were super hosts. The boys won their 1st game 5-0 with a great display of hockey and the girls drew their match 3-3. A great start! We finished our evening with a BBQ and watching the England v Columbia, world cup match in the club house. Day 3 was another glorious day, our morning consisted of a bus trip into Amsterdam and a canal boat ride around the historic city. The boys and girls then found the shops! Following the shopping we travelled to HC Barendrecht, once again great facilities and superb hosts. Both games were competitive and eagerly contested. The boys came out on top once again, 4-0 and the girls lost against a very strong side, nevertheless great experience. The 1st few days passed us by so quickly and waking up on the final full day we were greeted by perfect beach day conditions. After breakfast we packed up our kit and beach wear and hopped on the bus to Scheveningen Beach. We spent the whole morning there relaxing, jumping waves, eating in cafes and a bit of shopping before heading o to our nal match against NHC De Ijssell. Again we were greeted well and made to feel at home. What lovely facilities the club had in terms of astroturf pitches. We played both matches side by side, the girls finished their tour a with a 3-1 win, after going behind quite early on. The boys dominated their game winning 12-1; a class performance from a talented team. On our final morning we hit the shops again, purely hockey centred though this time! We found the Hockey Republic; a hockey players dream!

Thank you to all for a fab trip!
